We’re thrilled to share some very special news with you: In 2026, the Blauer Salon Cinema was once again honored with the Kinematheksverbund Film Award in the “Cinema That Looks Back” category; this time taking second place! 🎉
New program - new trailer. Here's a little preview of this semester!

The time had finally come again. Even before the doors of the HfG officially opened for the new semester, the curtain had already risen here in the Salon.

Our new semester programme, City of Cinema, kicks off in October. Over the coming months, we’ll be looking at films in which cities are far more than mere backdrops – they determine how people move about, meet, lose touch and find one another again. The city is more than just a backdrop. It guides movements and encounters, separates people or brings them together, and sets the rhythm of everyday life.

The city is in a state of emergency; the HFG’s only air-conditioned refuge is our little movie theater, and the rest of Karlsruhe’s residents are packed like frozen sardines in the hallways of the ZKM. The German Mediterranean still has to get used to a constant 40 degrees in the shade. What better time to venture a refreshingly wintry look back?

With the final film of this semester, we realize: even “All Endings Are Beautiful,” because we’re already incredibly excited for the well-deserved summer break—and we already feel a bit like Ferdinand on the beach in Godard’s Pierrot le Fou.

It was a real treat! Exactly three weeks ago, our 2026 Open-Air Cinema came to a close, bringing to an end two wonderful weekends full of magical movie moments!

The projectors have been retrieved from the attic and set up, the popcorn machine preheated, the screen rolled out, and we’ve done a big shopping run at Metro using Stadtmobil. That can only mean one thing: it’s time for open-air cinema!

Check out our program trailer that offers a glimpse into our diverse selection of films.

As part of the seminar “Susan Sontag: Seeing and Being Seen,” which explores Sontag’s reflections on visibility, self-presentation, and representation, we will screen Sontag’s debut film Duett för kannibaler (1969), followed by an open discussion.
