With the final film of this semester, we realize: even “All Endings Are Beautiful,” because we’re already incredibly excited for the well-deserved summer break—and we already feel a bit like Ferdinand on the beach in Godard’s Pierrot le Fou.

Together we have celebrated directorial debuts, discovered new cinematic voices, and let ourselves be thrown into unfamiliar worlds, repeatedly realizing: the first film is rarely just a first film. More often, it is already a promise, an attitude, sometimes even a small chaos with great potential. That is what has carried this series, and we have duly celebrated ten years of analog projection in the Blue Salon along the way.

And now? Now comes the big, officially announced, slightly melancholically anticipated summer void.

The projectors can rest, the film prints will hopefully soon all be returned, and we too will swap the cinema for sunshine, the city for travel, rows of seats for deck chairs. A break is necessary—not as stagnation, but as a liminal space in which cinema does not disappear, but simply shifts elsewhere: into journeys, conversations, long evenings, and perhaps the occasional film that one has “actually been meaning to watch for a long time.”

But don’t worry: behind the scenes, ideas are already being developed, collected, watched, and planned. The next semester program is already in progress and is slowly taking its final shape. New films, new evenings, new reasons to come back to the Blue Salon—soon it will be time again.

Until then, we say thank you for being there, for coming, staying, returning, and spreading the word. To you, our audience, and to everyone who helped make this semester program possible.

We wish you a wonderful summer, great films wherever you may find them, and a little rest in between all the images.
