OPEN AIR CINEMA 2026

In exactly one month, it’s finally that time again!

We invite you to the seventh Open Air Cinema on the lawn in front of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and the ZKM from June 12–15 and June 18–22, 2026. For nine summer evenings, the green space between the university and the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office will be transformed into an atmospheric open-air cinema.

This year’s program focuses on the debut films of influential directors in film history, which will be shown in stunning 35mm projection on a large inflatable screen. The open-air cinema thus remains true to its analog tradition and brings film history to life in its original form.

Whether it’s the French New Wave, Hong Kong New Wave, U.S. independent cinema, or Australian apocalyptic classics—the program spans a wide range of cinematic styles and cultural contexts.

The supporting program begins every evening at 8:00 PM with DJ sets, a bar, and snacks—including hot dogs (also vegan) and fresh popcorn. The film program starts at 9:15 PM.

Admission is free; donations are welcome.
