Die Wilden Kerle

Die Wilden Kerle

Director: Joachim Masannek | Germany 2003 | 94 min | 35mm | German Original Version | with Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht, Raban Bieling, Sarah Kim Gries

Hey ho, little stars and window panes, watch out—the wild guys are back and want to enjoy their hard-earned summer vacation to the fullest! But grounding, parents, and their arch-enemies, the “Unbeatable Winners,” throw a wrench in their plans and even take over the soccer field. Under Leon's leadership, the guys train harder than ever— to win back everything in the decisive game. The Wild Soccer Bunch is not only the first movie by children's book author Joachim Masannek, but for many, the film series is one of their first cinema experiences ever. In the first part, it's still easy to indulge in 2000s nostalgia. When there was still good and evil, and ice cream sundaes and fat Michi. Unfortunately, Rufus Beck as Willi wasn't the only thing lost over the course of the films. Girls were allowed to play with them again and again, but the older they got, the more sexualized they were portrayed. Cute soccer somehow turned into a German Twilight, and after part 5, everyone was really glad it was finally over. Everything is fine as long as you're wild, but it just shouldn't have been wilder than Gonzo Gonzales.
