After long program meetings, the new film program for the summer semester is ready for the beginning of spring! Once again, we have collected, discussed and evaluated dozens of film suggestions...
...and the result was: CINEMA POETICO!
What does cinema have to do with poetry? If poetry were enough, why did another art form like cinema have to be invented? “Poetic” here does not refer to poetry itself, but to a certain way of seeing and creating. The Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz, for example, uses the term to reject the causality of Hollywood's understanding of conflict and its resolution in film. Instead, this type of cinema invites the audience to multiple narrative threads, changing perspectives, imaginary solutions, visual detours, magical realism and more.
Poetic cinema revolves around dreams, visions, ruptures, non-linearity, fragments, orality and affective moments. This series presents a hand-picked selection of masterpieces and hidden gems that reflect this rather underrated path of cinema.
In addition to our film series of poetry, there will be workshops on analog film projection, midnight movies, cult sneak, a silent film concert, short film programs and of course, as every summer, the open air cinema in front of the HfG!
So come and see us in the Blauer Salon, the cinema of poetry!
