After a serious crisis, the painter Vincent van Gogh comes to the provincial town of Auvers-sur-Oise. At the urging of his brother Theo, he sought treatment there from the doctor Dr. Gachet. Van Gogh became unexpectedly productive in the idyll, but he did not find a home here either. Neither Gachet nor his brother Theo understand his bold brushstrokes. The master of color feels alone, he flees to the brothels of Paris and to alcohol. Even Gachet's daughter Marguerite can no longer stop the downfall of the outsider...
