A motorcycle gang of greasers becomes involved in trouble in a small southern town. The group of bikers congregate at a rural roadside diner and gas station en route to Daytona. Their stay in town is extended, to the dismay of some town folks, as one of them has to fix his motorcycle… Violence ensues.. Kathryn Bigelow's directorial debut shows signs of her later work. She impresses with technical precision and palpable love of cinema. It is a highly stylized film noir cult classic, whose cinematography is among the best that motorcycle films have to offer. In an atmosphere marked by lethargy and monotony, accompanied by the music of John Lurie and rockabilly legend Robert Gordon, Bigelow calmly and evocatively tells a tragic story about a handful of stranded, temporarily immobilized bikers. Inspired by Kenneth Anger's Scorpio Rising and The Wild One, The Loveless stages the biker fetish more artfully than any other film. An extremely rare cinematic gem that should not be missed.
