Sailor and Lula are madly in love with each other. But Lula's mother is against their love and hires a knifeman to kill Sailor. He knows how to defend himself, but ends up in prison. When he is released, Lula is waiting for him in a fiery red convertible and the two of them flee across America. Their mother then chases after them with two men, a private detective and a killer, neither of whom suspect anything about the other.
