In the late 1920s, the two friends Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown try to make their fortune in Hollywood. Together with his partner, the hysterical actress Lina Lamont, Don quickly achieves great success. When the time comes to switch from silent to talkies, Lina's career and an ongoing production are jeopardized by her thin, high-pitched voice. Cosmo saves the project with the idea of turning the film into a musical and having Lina dubbed by Don's friend Kathy.
