The story of Nola Darling's simultaneous sexual relationships with three different men is told by her and by her partners and other friends. All three men wanted her to commit solely to them; Nola resists being "owned" by a single partner.
A gentleman who's opposed to and mocks women's suffrage goes for a walk and unknowingly becomes an advertisement for it. The film makes a direct reference to the actions of the English suffragette movement at the beginning of the 20th century. A suffragette opponent involuntarily becomes a propagandist for the movement through the prank of two young boys. However, the maid has the last word.
