On the run from the law, Marion Crane seeks shelter at a motel run by the shy Norman Bates. Bates seems interested in the woman, but his mother, with whom he lives in the house behind the motel, seems upset by Marion’s arrival. Meanwhile, Marion Crane is wanted by a private detective. He quickly finds the motel. When the detective then tries to talk to Mrs. Bates, he gets a deadly surprise.
