Luzi and Dietmar meet and fall in love in the port city of Kiel. She an older, petit-bourgeois secretary, he a young unskilled worker from Berlin. Both act out all the bourgeois rituals they have learned through education and the media. They go to a dance together at an outing pub, she shows him her allotment and her photo album. After a night of lovemaking, he helps her vacuum. They celebrate Christmas together. Suddenly, old criminal friends of Dietmar's arrive and kidnap Luzi to force Dietmar to join them again. In the style of a movie parody, Dietmar shoots the perpetrators on the beach and flees with Luzi by means of a small private plane into an uncertain future.
